Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior representative commented the attack made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
